Arrangement Looper for Ableton Live

Ableton Live’s Arrangement View offers a linear approach to music production and performance. However, looping multiple sections seamlessly during a live set is not natively possible. The Arrangement Looper V2โ€”a Max for Live device is designed to make this possible.

What is Arrangement Looper V2?

Arrangement Looper V2 allows you to set up multiple loop regions within Ableton Live’s Arrangement View. These loops can be activated manually or through automation, providing flexibility during live performances. This tool is particularly useful for artists who want to revisit specific sections of their tracks without manual intervention.

Key Features

  • Multiple Loop Regions: Save and recall various loop sections effortlessly.
  • Automation Integration: Activate loops via automation for hands-free control during performances.
  • AutoLoop Function: Automatically engages the loop switch when a loop section is activated.
  • MIDI and Key Mapping: Control the loop on/off switch using MIDI or key mappings for enhanced flexibility.

How to Use Arrangement Looper V2

  1. Set Up a Loop Region
In Arrangement View, use the loop brackets to define the start and end points of your desired loop.
  2. Save the Loop
Select a loop number from the “Set” menu to save the current loop region to that slot.
  3. Activate the Loop
Click on the corresponding number in the “Activate Loop” tab to engage the pre-set loop region.
  4. Automate Loop Activation
Draw automation envelopes to trigger loops at specific points in your arrangement.
  5. Enable AutoLoop
Activate the AutoLoop function to automatically turn on the loop switch when a loop section is triggered.
  6. Control via MIDI/Key Mapping
Map the loop on/off switch to a MIDI controller or keyboard key for manual control.

Note: When using automation to activate loops with AutoLoop enabled, avoid automating the loop on/off switch directly, as this can disable its automation.

Considerations for Time Signature Changes

Arrangement Looper V2 functions across various time signatures. However, if you apply time signature changes in Arrangement View, you may need to re-set loop regions that occur after the change. This is because the grid and bar count adjustments can affect the positioning of clips and automations.

Arrangement Looper V2 enhances Ableton Live’s looping capabilities in Arrangement View, offering a robust solution for live performers seeking dynamic control over their sets. By integrating this device into your workflow, you can focus more on your performance and less on manual adjustments.
